Drama at South Gloucestershire Council Debate
Campaigners Reveal Council Collusion With BAE Over Plans to Redevelop Airfield
14th December 2011, Kingswood. At a packed full council meeting to decide Filton Airfield's status in the Core Strategy document, drama unfolded when campaigners revealed through a Freedom of Information request that South Gloucestershire Council officers worked with BAE Systems and their agents, Terence O'Rourke to create the "independent" report into the aviation options, to give warning of councillors objecting to the plans and to help prepare material for the public consultation. The communiations also reveal that the council intended to develop the plans long before the public consultation had begun and highlight the strong emphasis on residential properties over job-creating industries. Save Filton Airfield Campaign
Submits Consultation Response to South Gloucestershire
Council
24th October 2011, Filton. The Save Filton
Airfield Campaign today submitted its formal response to the
South Gloucestershire Council consultation on the future of
the airfield. The 37 page document "A Vision for Filton
Airfield" sets forth our campaign's arguments. It examines,
using industrial research, how the airfield plays an
important part in the South West economy, how it has been
poorly utilitised by its current owners and how it can play
its part in the continuation of the long history of aviation
and aerospace innovation in Bristol. The full document can
be
downloaded here (PDF, 1.6MB).
